
History
1920 The Anglican Church of St.John in the Wilderness, a temporary structure, was erected by the Anglican Church Army.
1930 The present sanctuary was dedicated as the Episcopal (Anglican) Church of St John the Baptist.
1947 A periodic Sunday morning community service, largely attended by the American community grew out of the St. John's fellowship. This group developed into the present Maadi Community Church.
1952 The Church Women's committee was established.
1955 R. William Elmer was appointed as first full-time pastor of Maadi Community Church. A Committee was appointed to draw up a Church Constitution.
1956 Maadi Community Church adopted its Constitution.
1957 Pastor Otto Meinardus began a 10 year ministry. He sums up those years with this quote. "When everything has been said about the Maadi Community Church, there still remains that, which cannot be pressed into words, the mystery of the fellowship. For thousands of people, who have served in Egypt, the Maadi Community Church has been a spiritual home, a fellowship that provided meaning to the meaningless, a fellowship that made all the difference to their assignments in this land."
1967 Sunday evening services began.
1967 John Peck and Dale Compton served as co-Pastors for seven years.
1973 Harold Vogelaar took over the pastoral leadership. Bill Alto and Mike Shelley also served as interim pastors.
1978 David Johnson began pastoring the Church (as well as pastoring St. Andrew's church downtown) and started the Friday morning Worship service plus a Church School for all ages in addition to the Sunday evening services.
1982 It was decided to cease being a mission church and become a fully independent work. Harold "Chappie" Chapman commenced his 8 year pastoral ministry.
1989 The arrangement between the Anglican Diocese and the Maadi Community Church was formalized giving the Maadi Community Church sole responsibility for administering the Church and its facilities. Shortly after, a new four story office/education building was planned and completed just behind the sanctuary.
1990 Wilbur Skaggs was called as the Interim Pastor serving till the end of 1991. During this time a second Friday morning service was begun.
1992 Dave Petrescue was called as the Senior Pastor.
1993 A third Friday Morning service was added to accommodate the growing congregation.
1994 A tent facility was erected in the garden area to accommodate the growing numbers in one service.
1996 Special services began for the African community.
1997 A second Friday morning service was added to accommodate the growing numbers. A Jubilee Service was held to celebrate 50 years of ministry.
2000 (January) Commencement of the Sudanese fellowship.
2000 (June) Maadi Community Church was formally recognized as an evangelical protestant church in Egypt under the name of the Evangelical International Church.
2003 Larry Boss was called to serve as Interim Senior Pastor while Dave Petrescue was on a year's sabbatical.
2003 A Thursday evening service was added.
2004 (November) Larry Boss called to continue as Senior Associate Pastor.
2005 (September 18) Pastor Otto Meinardus, founding pastor of MCC, died in Ellerhau, Germany
2005 (September) Fourth service launched on Friday afternoons (Africa Live)
2006 (September 5) Pastor Dave Petrescue died following an accident at his home.
2006 (September 7) Pastor Larry Boss appointed as Interim Senior Pastor.
2006 (September 9) 2,500 people attended the memorial service for Pastor Dave held at Victory Park, Maadi, Cairo.
2006 (September 16) Memorial Service for Pastor Dave at Abbotsford Alliance Church, Canada
2008 (May) Dr. Steven Flora joins MCC as Sr. Pastor.
